The Portuguese Navy invited World No. 5 Robin Soderling and No. 18-ranked Jo-Wilfred Tsonga aboard the sailing ship Sagres on Tuesday in Lisbon's Navy port in Alfeite.

Soderling and Tsonga were given a tour of the vessel by Captain Mendes, which included a hair-raising climb up the rigging of the ship.

They also took part in a mini tennis exhibition on the deck of the ship to give the crew a preview of the action at the Estoril Open this week.

"It was a really good experience, totally different from the tennis world," said Tsonga. "[Climbing up the rigging] was really dangerous! I can't imagine what it would be like if it was windy.

"The last time I was on a boat, which I rented for fishing, I was sick for five hours. Here it was okay, as it was a big boat moored up."

The Sagres, a Portuguese sailing ship used to train navy sailors, recently returned from a trip around the world.

"I've had a wonderful experience so far," added Tsonga. "The hotel is by the sea and the club is very nice."
