Butorac-Rojer Capture Third Team Title

Estoril, Portugal

Estoril Doubles final© JLSEric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer are now 3-2 lifetime in ATP World Tour doubles finals.

Third seeds Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer defeated No. 4 seeds and defending champions David Marrero and Marc Lopez 6-3, 6-4 in 64 minutes on Sunday to win the Estoril Open doubles title.

Butorac and Rojer did not drop a set all week en route to their third ATP World Tour team title (3-2 overall).

Butorac also won the 2009 Estoril Open title with Scott Lipsky. The American improved to a 10-4 record in the ATP World Tour finals, while Rojer is now 3-7 lifetime in title matches.

"It feels great," said Butorac. "It's my second time winning here. I usually don't like playing on clay, but the clay in Estoril must have something in it because I always play my best tennis here.

"Our games really came together really well this week. We returned as well as we ever have. In each match we had 10 to 15 break point opportunities and when you're putting that much pressure on other teams you're going to find yourself in a very good place."

Rojer added, "It feels really nice. We had a tough week last week in Barcelona. We hired a clay-court specialist to improve a few things in our games. I think we worked at hard and it has paid off this week. Our returning was our best part this week. We are a good serving team already, but when we return aggressively we put pressure on our opponents."

The first set went with serve until the eighth game when Lopez was broken to love. Butorac closed out the 29-minute opener with a hold to 30. They had converted one of six break point opportunities.

Butorac and Rojer, who beat top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals on Friday, was equally as aggressive in the second set. The duo capitalised on two Marrero errors in the fifth game to break the Spaniard to 30 and then dropped just two points in three service games to clinch the title.

"I am looking forward to keep getting better on the clay," said Rojer. "Eric didn't grow up on the clay, but he has improved a lot on the dirt. We hope to get better together."

Butorac said, "We'll next be headed to Rome, then Nice ahead of Roland Garros."

Lopez and Marrero survived two Match tie-breaks in three match en route to their third ATP World Tour finals together (2-1). Lopez drops to 5-4 and Marrero 2-1 in championship finals.
