World No. 490 and Portuguese favourite Pedro Sousa is close to qualifying for the Estoril Open main draw for the first time in four years.

The Lisbon native has fallen in qualifying the past three years, but after a stirring 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over Russian Andrey Kumantsov on Sunday, he is hopeful of playing his first main-draw ATP World Tour tournament since 2007.

The Estoril Open's Tournament Director Joao Lagos granted Sousa a wild card into the main draw in 2007, when he lost to Igor Kunitsyn 6-1, 6-1 in the first round.

Sousa must now beat World No. 107 Albert Ramos of Spain in the final round of qualifying. Ramos hit five aces past his countryman Pablo Martin-Adalia in a 7-6(4), 6-3 win over one hour and 34 minutes.

France's Marc Gicquel also won through when his Spanish opponent, Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol, retired due to an injury. Gicquel was leading 6-1, 3-4 after 51 minutes of play.

Six players will have to contest two qualifying matches on Sunday, after heavy rain postponed matches the day before.
