World No. 61 Anabel Medina Garrigues captured her 10th WTA title on Saturday at the Estoril Open.

The 28-year-old Spaniard defeated Kristina Barrois of Germany 6-1, 6-4 in a rain-interrupted final for her ninth clay-court trophy, a joint record with Venus Williams among active players.

Medina Garrigues led Barrois 6-1, 3-2, when both players were forced off Central court due to rain at 1:37 p.m. local time.

Play resumed at 1:18 p.m. with Medina Garrigues breaking the Barrois serve en route to winning three straight games for the title (10-6 overall in finals). She won 12 of the last 15 points. The final score was 6-1, 6-2 in 76 minutes.

Medina Garrigues dropped just seven points on first serve in the match and capitalised on six of 12 break point opportunities.

Medina Garrigues totally dominated the first set, breaking serve in the first, fifth and seventh games to wrap up the 36-minute opener. She saved two breaks points at 4-1. Barrois won just 15 points.

Medina Garrigues went on a run of seven straight games from 2-1 in the first set to 3-0 in the second set, before a clearly frustrated Barrois briefly regained her composure. Rain intervened. It ended Barrois' renaissance.

Ranked World No. 92 on 21 February, Medina Garriques will return to the Top 45 in the WTA Rankings on Monday.

Barrois, who did not take up the sport full-time until 24 years of age, won just 37 per cent of service points. She has a 0-2 record in WTA finals, having also lost last year at Strasbourg to Maria Sharapova.
