Kristina Barrois, who lost to Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1, 6-2 in the Estoril Open final on Saturday, looked to the positives of a fine week at the Estadio Nacional.
"It has been a good two weeks for me with the quarter-finals at Stuttgart and then final here," said the 29-year-0ld German.
"Today I wasn’t able to play well so I’m pretty disappointed by that. It’s my second final and the second time I’ve lost. But maybe tomorrow I will look back and be happier about what I achieved here. I did have some good matches here, I just need to forget about this one!"
Barrois, who also lost to Maria Sharapova in the 2010 Strasbourg final, insisted, "I just had trouble getting into the match today.
"I didn’t find a way to play my game. She played with such heavy spin. She’s a great clay-court player, so it was tough for me on every point even to get a chance to win the point.
World No. 71 Barrois beat Sofia Arvidsson, sixth seed Eleni Vesnina, top seed Alisa Kleybanova and Johanna Larsson en route to the title match.
"In the matches before the final I played very aggressively and also with spin, which is normally not my way, but I learned to play it on clay," she said.
"I’ve been mixing that up with the slice and some drop shots. [But] today nothing was working like this. Sometimes you have days like today, but hopefully I can execute much better next week.
"This year the schedule was a little bit different. Last year I played Estoril then Barcelona, this year I have to decide between both, so I think I made the right decision to come here. I’m looking forward to playing here again next year."
