Ramos, Roger-Vasselin, Gicquel Advance In Qualifying

World No. 107 Albert Ramos took one step closer on Saturday to qualifying for his third ATP World Tour clay-court tournament of the year.

The Spaniard converted five of eight break point opportunities to beat Portuguese hopeful Goncalo Falcao 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes for a place in the second round of qualifying.

Ramos will next face Pablo Martin-Adalia, who won 74 per cent of service points to beat Filippo Leonardi 6-2, 6-2 in 68 minutes.

France's Eduardo Roger-Vasselin dropped 15 points on serve to overcome Ivan Navarro 6-3, 6-4 in 85 minutes. His next opponent, Peter Polansky, saved 12 of 15 break points to top Anital van der Duim 6-2, 6-3 in 81 minutes.

Another Frenchman, Marc Gicquel, who has a 0-3 record in ATP World Tour singles final, hit eight aces and won 71 per cent of service points to defeat Tsung-Hua Yang 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in just under two hours.

Gicquel, who is currently ranked No. 171 in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings, will next challenge Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol, a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Barry King.

Only 10 first-round qualifying matches were possible on Saturday, when rain delayed the start of play for three-and-a-half hours. Four qualifiers will win places in the main draw.
