Kirilenko/Pennetta Clinch Women's Doubles Crown

Russian Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta of Italy clinched the 2008 Estoril Open women's doubles title on Saturday afternoon.

The rookie pairing defeated Bosnian Mervana Jugic-Salkic and Ipek Senoglu of Turkey 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes on Centralito court.

“It is the first time we played together and it is just great that we were able to win here at Estoril Open right away," said Pennetta.

"I think we played very well together and winning a title is not so easy so I am very happy how this week went and I hope it won’t be the last tournament we play together."

Kirilenko, who will play Iveta Benesova in the singles final on Sunday, said: "Flavia and I had a lot of fun on court and I think this one of the reasons why we played so well here at the Estoril.

"It was not easy today with the weather conditions and after my 3 sets in singles but we managed and I am very happy we could win this tournament."
