Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski continued the ATP Doubles Revolution Promotional campaign by acting as graffiti artists at the Estoril Open on Thursday.
The Polish pair expressed their delight at the promotion of the four-man game by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
But later in the day, their mood turned as the top seeds ranked No. 5 in the Stanford ATP Doubles Race lost their doubles quarterfinal to Russians Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-7(3), 10-5 (Match TB).
Frederico Gil had earlier knocked out Tursunov, this week’s ATPtennis.com blog writer, in the singles championship.
Safin and Tursunov will next play No. 3 seeds Lucas Arnold and Leos Friedl, who beat Gustavo Marcaccio and Flavio Saretta 6-2, 6-3.
Second-seeded Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner will take on Czech compatriots and No. 4 seed Tomas Cibulec and Jaroslav Levinsky in the other semifinal.
Dlouhy and Vizner recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over Leonardo Azzaro and Juan Antonio Marin, while Cibulec and Levinsky edged through their quarterfinal against Nuno Marques and Leonardo Tavares 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 (Match TB).
In the women’s team competition, defending champion and 2004 Athens Olympic gold medallists Ting Li (Snr) and Tiantian Sun were made to work for their semifinal place.
The Chinese No. 2 seeds knocked out Stephanie Foretz and Antonella Serra Zanetti 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
Qualifiers Neha and Shikha Uberoi wait in the last four. The pair beat No. 4 seeds Eleni Daniilidou and Jasmin Woehr 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
