Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov, pairing together for the first time, knocked out Czech duo David Skoch and Tomas Zib in the doubles first round at the Estoril Open on Monday.

Safin and Tursunov, writing a daily blog for ATPtennis.com web site this week, edged through with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 (Match TB) win in 79 minutes.

There were four doubles matches in Sony Ericsson WTA Tour action on day one of main draw action.

Top seeds Zi Yan and Jie Zheng beat Portuguese pairing Ana Catarina Nogueira and Neuza Silva 6-3, 6-2.

Second seeds Ting Li and Tiantian Sun followed their Chinese compatriots lead, defeating Arantxa Parra Santonja and Ma. Emilia Salerni 6-3, 6-3.

Eleni Daniilidou and Jasmin Woehr, No. 4 seeds, cruised into the second round, but there was an early exit for the No. 3 seeds.

Germany’s Sandra Kloesel and Anastassia Rodionova of Russia ousted Lourdes Dominguez Lino and Emilie Loit 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
