American James Blake, who won a memorable first round clash against Portuguese No. 1 Frederico Gil and went on to reach the final this year, has confirmed he will compete at the Estoril Open from 1-9 May 2010.

Former World No. 4 Blake came close to capturing his 11th ATP World Tour title, but failed to convert two championship points at 4-5 in the second set against Albert Montanes, who went on to win the final 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-0.

Blake, who will celebrate his 30th birthday on 28 December, was attempting to become the first American to win a clay-court title since Mardy Fish at Houston (d. Melzer) in April 2006.

He was also hoping to become the first American to win on European clay since his Davis Cup team mate Andy Roddick lifted the St. Poelten trophy (d. Davydenko) in May 2003.
